BDS Activists Harass Jewish Business Owner Near U of MI Campus

Robert Kastel is the owner of Champions, a liquor store within the heart of U-Michigan’s campus in Ann Arbor. Mr. Kastel is also is a Jew who came to America from Iraq in 1982. Since then has worked hard alongside his brother and father, earning a living and providing for his family. He even has several signs on display outside of his store, including one that reads, “I stand with Israel.” However, this past March, a student-supporter of BDS walked in secretly recording Mr. Kastel in an attempt to spark a boycott of Champions because of the owner’s support of Israel.

Arson Suspected in Fires that Ravaged Israel Over the Weekend

On Saturday, Israel intensified efforts to extinguish flames that have raged across nearly half the country for several days. While dry weather and strong winds have fanned the flames, security forces have arrested nearly a dozen Palestinians suspected of arson. Some of those arrested were caught attempting to light fires—three of the suspects had bottles of gasoline, gloves, and a lighter on their person.

London cafe apologizes for “NUTZI” smoothie with swastika on its label

A London café has come under fire for selling a smoothie with a swastika drawn on the label of the bottle. Called the “Nutzy,” the smoothie was being sold at the Nin Com Soup café in north London, the London-based Jewish Chronicle reported. The cafe’s founder later apologized.

Israel approves acquisition of 17 additional F-35 fighter jets

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Sunday that Israel will purchase 17 additional F-35 fighter jets from the U.S. Israel’s diplomatic-security cabinet unanimously approved the acquisition, saying American defense aid funds would be used to finance the deal.

Number Don’t Lie: Israel sees economic growth

The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) released a report on Monday, November 21, and the numbers are good news for the nation of Israel. According to the report, in the month of October, Israel’s unemployment rate went down to 4.5 percent—it’s lowest in 30 years. In September, the unemployment rate was 5 percent.

Record number of Brazilian Jews immigrate to Israel

According to the Jewish Agency, 650 Brazilian Jews have already made aliyah this year, with around another 50 expected by the end of December. This is up from 496 new Brazilian immigrants in 2015 and 280 in 2014.

UN passes positive Israel resolution

On Friday, the United Nations General Assembly passed an Israeli-sponsored resolution known as “Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development.” The resolution aims to improve building and development. After a vote, only 30 countries opposed the resolution, 8 withheld their vote and 123 countries supported it.

Tourism up in Israel and rising

Thus far in 2016; tourism from North America to Israel is up in record fashion. Officials expect that by year end the total increase from 2015 will be 5%. In total this year, about 535,000 Americans visited Israel in between January-October, according to Uri Steinberg, the Israeli tourism commissioner. “This is the best year for tourism from North America,” Steinberg said.
